9 killed as Assam, Meghya reel under floods & landslides
GUWAHATI/SHILLONG: Nine persons, including six children, died in monsoon-hit northeast, as heavy rains swept away homes and landslides cut off key highways connecting several states in the flood-hit region.
At least five persons, including four children and a woman died in Meghya, while two siblings, both minors, were crushed to death in a landslide in Assam’s Goalpara.
Reeling under heavy rains for the past few months, the overall death toll in floods and landslides this year in the northeast rose to 50 with the latest deaths.

Northeast states receive highest rains in India. Floods are perennial problems in these states. Govt should devise some policies to help people in flood prone areas.
